Mental illness can cause major problems.

Negative attitudes towards people who have a mental health condition are common. Stigma is a dishonor or a humiliation when someone sees you in a negative tactic just because you have a distinguishing or personal characteristic. If someone is making a negative remark about your mental health it leads to stigma. It includes the discrimination that can be apparent and direct. If someone is avoiding, because they thought you could be dangerous due to your mental illness. You man even start judging yourself. It increases the mental illness which leads to stigma.

Depression and anxiety syndromes last the effects on a person’s health and social life. Doctors may prescribe medicines to help a person to treat with mental health, but it has side effects such as mood swings and sleeplessness. It is vital to take proper mental health treatment like in case of many other disorders and diseases for eg. people suffering from ADHD seek proper consultation and take ADD medicine, likewise, mental health cannot be overlooked. CBD is used as a treatment for both depression and mental health but it may cause side effects.

Harmful effects of stigma include:

  1. An individual feels reluctant to seek help, treatment, and dealings.
  2. There is a lack of understanding with the people around especially with family, friends, co-workers or others.
  3. They don’t have so many opportunities to work. They have no social activities.
  4. It causes mistreatment, violence, harassment, and bullying.
  5. Mental illness treatment is not effectively covered by health insurance.
  6. Negative beliefs are born, the person started negative thinking that they can’t do anything in life in a better way. Or they will never succeed at certain challenges.

Mental stress can be caused due to many daily routines matters like that of dealing with the workload, catching last minute flights to Perth, US, the UK for business purpose or managing finances, etc. The key, however, is to not let yourself get destroyed by all this rather understand it and deal with it.

Comparing the definitions of public stigma and self-stigma:

  Public stigma

  • Typecast: it is a negative belief about a group of people. Which includes weakness in character, dangerousness, and ineffectiveness?
  • Prejudgment: it is an agreement with belief and creates negative emotion. It includes anger and fear.
  • Discrimination: It is a behavior reaction to partiality. It includes prevention, employment, and opportunities.

  Self-stigma

  • Typecast: it is a negative belief about the self which includes character weaknesses and inability.
  • Prejudgment: it is an agreement with belief, negative emotional reaction. It includes low self-worth, low self-esteem, and low self-confidence).
  • Discrimination: it is a behavior reaction to prejudgment. It includes less motivation to work.

 How to deal with Stigma?

Here are some ways you can cope up with stigma:

  • Treatment:you must need treatment. Some individuals feel reluctant to get treatment of mental health. Don’t be afraid of the treatment to be labeled with a mental illness. It prevents you from seeking help whether it be through some emotional support animal that can be some happy dog or through some medications. Mental health is a very major problem that can be reduced by treatment.
  • Self-doubt and shame:Never let stigma create self-doubt or shame. Stigma is a sign of personal weakness; it does not come from others. You should be able to control it by yourself without any help. You must have knowledge of what you are suffering and how to overcome it. Educate yourself about your mental health condition.
  • Don’t separate yourself:Individuals feel reluctant to let people know about their mental illness. They don’t share it with anyone, family, and friends. Community members, family, and friends can support you. It is up to you how you will reach out to people you trust for understanding and support.
  • Support group:There are some national groups that offer programs and resources that help to reduce the stigma. Stigma can be reduced by educating the people who have a mental illness, suggest support for people with mental illness.
  • Always remember that “you are not a disease”, “you have a disease”.
  • Programs might help:If an individual has a mental illness that affects learning, find out what programs might help. The teachers should not discriminate against the students hence it is against the law. The concern with teachers, professors about the best programs that can help teachers must know the student’s disability and must assign that student the program that might help his mental health.
  • Express your opinions about Stigma:Educate the public about mental health. Mental illness causes a major problem. Express your opinions regarding stigma in newspapers or internet to aware the message all over the world. Give information that is based on facts. An individual must learn to accept its position, recognize what to do to treat this disorder. By helping people to educate about mental health importance is very important and can have a huge difference between the society in which we are living. Expressing the opinions, seeking support, and helping to educate the people who are suffering from mental illness can make a big difference in the society in which we are living.
